DLC Ghent – Lorcana’s biggest event up to date

DLC Ghent Title

The biggest Lorcana event in the history of the game delivered exactly what everyone hoped for: a massive field, a shifting meta, and a finale that has already sparked a lot of discussion (especially concerning bans). DLC Ghent hosted 4,000 players split across two brackets, the weekend became a stress test for both the format and the community—and both rose to the occasion.

Event Overview

To manage to many player, DLC Ghent was split into two brackets of 2,000 players each. One played on Friday and one on Saturday. Both brackets advanced into Day 2 on Sunday, where the remaining players continued their run toward the top. Only the winners of the two brackets would ultimately face each other for the title of Disney Lorcana DLC Grand Champion and the coveted Worlds Invite, making every match on Sunday feel even more high‑stakes.

To give you a sense of just how difficult it is to win an event of this size, here is a breakdown of the win percentages you need to achieve to reach the different stages of the tournament.

Meta Snapshot of DLC Ghent- A Format in Motion

At DLC Ghent each and every possible Ink combination competed. But to not get to broad lets focus on the Ink combinations with 5% or more of the Metshare:

Ink CombinationMetashare (Friday+Saturday)
Amethyst / Steel 25 %
Amethyst / Sapphire22 %
Amber / Emerald16 %
Emerald / Sapphire7 %
Sapphire / Steel6 %
Amber / Amethyst6 %
Amber / Steel5 %

From this table we can defer some interesting facts about the top 3 decks:

  • For the first time since Set 9, Blurple (Amethyst / Sapphire) was not the most played deck at a DLC that size.
  • Around a quarter of all piloted decks are Amethyst / Steel. Probably because they have the easiest time teching against Dogs.
  • Despite being the “boogieman” of the Meta, Dogs (Amber / Emerald) was only the third most played deck on the event.

The Age of Dogs – Kind of

Now that we have a broad understanding of the DLC Ghent Meta we can look at the meta defining deck a little closer. Despite a relatively low share the Meta has warped itself around Dogs:

  • Decks which are perceived as “good” against Dogs saw more play
  • Decks which are perceived as “bad” less

Especially at the Top End it started showing, that tech against dogs was necessary. Both Friday and Saturday Bracket had 5 dog players each in the Top 8.

DLC Ghent firmly put dogs at the top of the Lorcana Core Constructed food chain.

New Standout Decks in DLC Ghent

Additionally to shifts in the Metashare at the top and a new big bad dethroning blurple, two completly new decks also left a big Impression. One Piloted by Diego, the other by Rarehunters own Lukas Kaupa.

Break Through for Amber / Steel

Steelsong enthusiast around the Lorcana Community rejoiced when they saw Diego’s run with Amber/Steel stood out as one of the weekend’s biggest surprises. The deck pushed deep into the event and proved that the archetype still has room to compete at the highest level.

Flinging damage around and the “Whole new World” at home consisting of Nani – Stage Manager and Doc – Bold Knight was a delight to see.

World Premiere for Boostie Boys

But whats an even bigger suprise then the return of an old archetype? A completly new one! Lukas Kaupa delivered a completly new control deck to the scene consisting of a suprisingly strong early game with cards like Scrooge Mcduck – Ghostly Ebenezer and Ghostly Tale, the underrated card draw engine Webbys Diary and of oppressive endgame with Raging Storm and Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon

The Boostie Boys Run at DLC Ghent

Both Lukas Kaupa and Long brought Lukas’s new Deck Boostie Boys. Both piloted it to an impressive finish, missing Top Cut by just a single win. The deck turned heads all weekend and added a welcome dose of innovation to the team’s lineup.

Both are for sure happy to tell you more if you hit them up on their socials!

More Qualifications

Jacob Frank and David Weir both qualify for the EU Continentals at DLC Ghent. Both used Blurpel, showing that Dogs can be beat

DLC Ghent Winner: Zan Syed

Of course, the biggest highlight of them all was Zan Syed, who took down the entire event after 18 long rounds without a single loss to his record.

The last round was the dreaded dogs mirror which was a total nail-biter!

He did it using the following list.

Key Takeaways are the lack of Daisy – Donald’s Date and the inclusion of Emerald Chromicon after everyone else was all in on Under The Sea.

Well built deck and even better Execution. Congratulations again Zan!

DLC Ghent: Authors Note

From a personal standpoint I absolutly loved DLC Ghent (but please don’t ask me about my tournament run… 4-4).

I was able to meet the whole Rarehunters Crew (Pro Players, Social Media and Managment) as well as so many of the Community which is always a blast to be around.

Heres my favorite photo collection of the social gatherings of the event.

I hope to see you all in Dortmund or any other Lorcana-Event!
Cheers Martin
